About Highview Christian Church
For starters, we are simply a non-denominational group of people who have decided to be followers of Jesus Christ. We take the Bible very seriously and are striving to live it out the best we can, fully aware of our weakness and our need for God's abundant grace and mercy.
We are attempting to experience
- Life – Jesus promised “life to the full,” an “abundant” life, in this life-time and on into eternity.
- Purpose – many in our day work, eat, sleep, play with no sense of meaning or significance. We believe that God created us with a purpose, to personally know Him and enjoy a relationship with Him. He wants His life to be lived out in ours. And it is our desire and “mission” to share that life with our friends and neighbors.
- Community – the church is a spiritual family. Christianity was never intended to be lived alone, but rather to be experienced together. We are determined to break down the barriers that divide people and seek a fellowship that includes everyone who seeks to follow Jesus.
Ministry Team
Jim Spicer - Senior Minister
Thanks to God's stirring in my life back in the Fall of 1970 along with the inspiration provided by my wife-to-be, Cindy (should note that such was not a "given" at that point) who had recently undergone a dramatic spiritual transformation, I left a football scholarship and the pursuit of a chemical engineering degree at Rensellaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY to pursue Christian ministry. I didn't have a clue what was going to happen next but jumped on the roller coaster for what would prove to be quite a ride.
I began attending Cincinnati Bible Seminary during the Winter of 1971. I received a B.A. degree in Christian Ministry in 1974 and later a M.A. degree in Apologetics in 1985.
Cindy and I were married in June of 1972. We have been blessed with four children, all who are grown now. Two were married recently. God also allowed us the opportunity to help raise two foster children and we now have four foster grandchildren.
We have spent over twenty years in full-time ministry. We established a coffee house ministry in Englewood, OH back during the "Jesus Movement" days. God then led us to the President Drive Church of Christ in the North Fairmount area of Cincinnati, where we labored until July of 1986. From July, 1986 until February, 1993 we worked with the Chicago Church of Christ and the Indianapolis Church of Christ.
Due to some personal and family reasons and because of some pruning and refining yet needed in my life by a loving and merciful Father, I left vocational ministry in 1993 and did not return until God opened the door here at Highview in May of 2006. During those years I worked in sales and recruitment and began my own recruitment business, Koinos Health Solutions in 2004.
Nathan Traver - Youth Minister

I grew up in a Christian home and came to believe in Christ as my savior when I was 12. However, most of my growth as a Christian occurred when I went to Manhattan Christian College. There I learned so much about the God and his word and it was while attending MCC that God gave me direction for my life.
While in college I met my wife Kayla. We were married May 20, 2006 and we have had a great marriage so far. I hope for many more great years because she is the greatest partner a man could ask for both in ministry and life. She is smart and passionate and loves the Lord.
I graduated with a degree in Cross-cultural ministry so it is strange that I got into youth ministry. When I was attending a church not far from Manhattan, KS the associate pastor asked me to lead the junior high youth group. I was hesitant at first, but God led me to accept the position. I fell in love with those kids and my life goals began to change. I love and desire to do mission work overseas some day, not as a traditional missionary, but a missionary to youth. Until I am called there, I will love on and communicate the gospel to the youth right where I am.
I want to make it known that all youth (7th-12th grade) are welcome here at Highview. It does not matter what you look like, where you are coming from, or what you have done you will be shown love in this youth group.
Pam Taylor - Music Director
I am married to a wonderfully supportive husband, Steve. We reside in Kentucky with our two Labrador retrievers: Diamond and Kayak.
I graduated from Cincinnati Bible College in 1973 with a B.S. in Christian Education and have worked at a bank in Cincinnati for the past 33 years.
I have volunteered playing the piano and singing at church for more years than I care to count! In the last eleven years, I also became involved with worship teams and planning the singing portion of the worship service. I came to Highview in August of 2004.
